Polokwane Executive Mayor, John Mpe, has officially unveiled a new addition to the municipal yellow fleet at Extension 44 (Green Side) on the 20th of March 2025.
According to the municipality, this fleet, which includes graders and a waste carrier truck, is a notable step in enhancing service delivery across the city.
Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said in the statement that the graders will improve road maintenance, ensuring smoother and safer roads, especially in developing areas. He highlighted that the waste carrier truck will strengthen waste management efforts, promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
In a video clip posted on the Polokwane Municipality’s official Facebook page, Polokwane Executive Mayor John Mpe displayed a gesture of excitement for this milestone, labeling the new fleet as a move towards municipality capacity building.
“As part of building a capable municipality, we are prioritizing buying our own yellow fleet and making sure that we build the capacity that we need. We are happy that we are here to unveil yet another fleet that will be mainly focusing on the city cluster, Seshego, as well as Mankweng areas,” Mpe highlighted.
The Executive Mayor also unveiled the new solar streetlights that have been installed in the streets towards the city. He concluded, stressing that the streetlights will assist in a fight against cable theft that often leaves the city in darkness.
