A task team headed by senior officials Noxolo Kiviet and Mzwandile Masina has been formed by ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula to investigate claims of irregularities at the regional conferences in Limpopo held by Peter Mokaba, Vhembe, and Norman Mashabane.
A strict two-week deadline has been set for the team to respond to allegations of vote manipulation, phoney delegates, and other procedural issues.
At ANC headquarters in Frans Mohlala, Polokwane, on Friday, Mbalula met with the Limpopo Provincial Executive Committee and made the announcement of the investigation.
Branches and delegates who filed complaints with the National Dispute Resolution Committee will be invited to produce proof once the task team gets started on Monday.
Apart from Sekhukhune, every region has reported disagreements resulting from the sessions. The inquiry comes after ANC members expressed concerns about anomalies, such as purported manipulation of the lists of candidates for the provincial assembly and Parliament.
Mbalula explained that ANC officials were exonerated of any wrongdoing after an examination into the list manipulation placed the blame on a service provider in charge of the system.
It is anticipated that the task team’s conclusions will boost trust in the ANC’s internal operations as the party resolves escalating conflicts within its Limpopo structures.
