The MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in Limpopo, Ernest Rachoene, led the #DikgerekgereWednesday programme to Road D5000 in the Venda on the 29 May, to stretch the road maintenance initiative to Vhembe district. According to the department, this vital stretch, which runs from Siloam to Tshiendeulu in the Makhado Local Municipality, will bring relief to the road user community.

The department said in the statement that this initiative is more than a maintenance drive, it is a hands-on initiative that brings leadership, resources, and action directly to communities, ensuring that gravel roads are restored to a condition that supports safe and reliable mobility.

Rachoene said that a maintained Road D5000 will significantly improve access for residents, support local economic activity, and enhance service delivery in the surrounding areas.

“We have witnessed the dire state of this road and sometimes it requires one to visit an area to fully understand the situation on the ground, we will ensure this road is maintained regularly through this programme as we plan for upgrades.” Emphasised the MEC.

In attendance were the Mayor of Makhado Local Municipality, Cllr Dorcus Mboyi, the local Traditional Authority, Members of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature’s Committee on Public Participation and Petitions, as well as Portfolio Committee members.
