Banyana Banyana dominated the Cosafa Tri-Nation series, with Jermaine Seoposenwe playing a key role. She scored the winning goal in the 2-0 final win over Zambia and had previously netted a brace in the 3-2 victory over Botswana.
The team’s perfect record on home soil bodes well for their upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
Banyana Banyana edged out Zambia 2-0 in the Cosafa Tri-Nation’s final, thanks to Bongeka Gamede’s stunning free kick and Jermaine Seoposenwe’s late finish.
Despite the convincing win, coach Desiree Ellis will be wary of upcoming challenges, particularly against top opponents. Zambia’s Barbra Banda had several chances, highlighting areas for improvement in Banyana’s defence ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Banyana’s defence showed some vulnerabilities, particularly with Lebohang Ramalepe’s unorthodox positioning in the early stages, often leaving her defensive role to push forward. However, her conversion to a forward in the second half proved pivotal, as the team gained momentum and ultimately scored through Bongeka Gamede and Jermaine Seoposenwe.
Despite Ramalepe’s attacking contributions, Banyana’s frontline, including Seoposenwe and Amogelang Motau, struggled with clinical finishing in the first half. Coach Desiree Ellis will soon make key decisions and finalise her Wafcon squad, building on the preliminary list she’s already compiling.
